Carifood was founded in 2001 by Yoshimi Ide (current Chairman), a veteran in the seafood industry with extensive experience and expertise specializing in herring and salmon.
In recent years, leveraging its strong network of Russian shippers, the company has successfully expanded operations from Japan to include export business to China, Thailand, Canada and the US.
As an example, Carifood’s share of herring roe import from Russia has surpassed 70% and is approaching 80% , even as the total supply from Russia continues to grow. In addition, salmon exports from Russia is also growing to an annual level of 7000 metric tons.
The global trend of seafood distribution and consumption is changing drastically. Needless to say, seafood is becoming a commodity category much like oil or lumber, with market demand growing accordingly on a global scale. On the other hand, the individual time-sensitive requirements of the processing plants and retailers can only be met by securing and guaranteeing a stable supply. Carifood operates and directly controls all levels of the product chain, from fish resource development, inspection, customer reporting, financing, processing to sales/marketing.
Carifood is looking for partners who can share the challenges and opportunities as we enter the new age of global seafood consumption.
